Bab Ul Hawaij Islamic Centre · Last updated 2 September 2026
This policy explains what the BHIC app collects, why, and who can see it. It applies to the mobile app and to our web version. Bab Ul Hawaij Islamic Centre is a registered Canadian charity based in Mississauga, Ontario (registered charity no. 837820810RR0001), and is the organization responsible for the information described here.
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and password | If you create a community account | To sign you in. Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication and are never visible to us. |
| First name, last name, phone number | If you create a community account | So centre staff can identify and contact members about events and community matters. |
| Events you submit | If you post a community event | To show it on the community calendar once approved. |
| Notification preferences | If you turn on prayer or event reminders | Stored on your own device, not sent to us. For event reminders your device joins a broadcast list; we are not told who is on it and keep no record identifying you. |
| A record of changes made by staff accounts | If you hold a staff account | So the centre can see who added, edited or removed an event, and who reset a password. This is an accountability measure for volunteers, not member monitoring. |
The app can remind you about prayer times and about events, but only if you switch those reminders on yourself. They are off until you do.
Delivery uses Apple's and Google's notification services, which necessarily handle the message in transit.
The app also links out to Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Once you follow a link you are on that company's service, under their policy, not ours.
We keep account information for as long as the account exists. You can delete your account yourself at any time, from the account menu on the Community page in the app, or ask us to do it. Full instructions are on our account deletion page.
Deleting your account removes your sign-in, your profile — name, email address and phone number — and your phone number from any community event you posted. Community events you posted stay on the calendar under your name. They were public announcements that other people may have planned around, so we keep them attributed; write to us if you want one taken down as well. Staff activity records are kept on a schedule set by the centre and are removed automatically once that period passes.
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or withdraw your consent to our use of it. Write to us and we will respond within a reasonable time, at no cost.
The app is intended for general community use and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, give notice in the app.
